Coastal communities boast extensive seagrass ecosystems that play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, known as Blue Carbon. Quantifying seagrass biomass accurately is essential for understanding its carbon storage potential. Traditional methods for biomass estimation often lack spatial resolution and may not capture fine-scale variability. We aim to utilize advanced sonar technologies, complemented by ground-truthing by SCUBA Divers, to build a species-level seagrass database, to enhance the quantification of Blue Carbon. Fishers and local community members are trained how to collect and interpret these datasets to ensure equitable access and understanding of the value of the seagrass ecosystems that border their homes.
